Cathedral’s enduring strength lies in its people – the students, families, staff, and alumni who learn and grow together. Our new Strategic Plan, Growing Together 2026–2030, reflects that shared spirit: grounded in our Anglican foundations and inspired by a collective vision for the years ahead. Throughout 2025, our planning process invited perspectives from across Cathedral’s community, with thoughtful and constructive feedback helping to refine and affirm our statements of purpose, vision, and values. We are deeply grateful for this engagement, which has strengthened our shared understanding of who we are and what we aspire to become. Looking ahead, this plan will guide Cathedral’s priorities and decisions, ensuring our growth remains thoughtful, inclusive, and true to the values that define our school.

The development of Growing Together 2026–2030 was a collaborative journey grounded in research, reflection, and community voice. Guided by a clear roadmap, the process began with a review of data, practice, and aspiration, then moved through cycles of consultation and design to shape a shared vision for Cathedral’s future.
In March 2025, the Executive conducted a detailed SWOT analysis, drawing on learning and wellbeing data, whole-school survey feedback, and environmental research to assess the school’s current position. The planning was informed by the OECD Education 2030 Framework, which challenges schools to prepare young people for an uncertain world. Cathedral’s plan embraces this challenge, equipping students with clarity of purpose, deep engagement, and strong ethical character, while responding to global and technological shifts with a distinct Cathedral identity – globally aware yet locally grounded, offering innovative, real-world learning shaped by our North Queensland context.
Through May and June, the School Board, Executive, and working groups refined Cathedral’s purpose, vision, and values, identifying the strategic priorities that will guide the next five years. Consultation across staff, students, parents, alumni, and the Board ensured the process reflected what matters most to our community.
By July, these insights were distilled into four enduring pillars – Mind, Heart, Future, and Home – and presented for community feedback. Finalised in October 2025, Growing Together 2026–2030 stands as more than a plan; it is a shared expression of Cathedral’s purpose, values, and commitment to growing together in the years ahead.

Our kookaburra mascots bring Cathedral’s values to life in a way that is joyful, memorable, and uniquely ours. Each character reflects one of the principles that guide our community — Respect, Responsibility, Service, and Engagement— helping students see what these values look like in everyday life. From showing kindness and honouring our diverse community, to taking ownership of our choices and caring for our environment as stewards of Creation, to helping others with empathy and compassion, and participating with curiosity, commitment, and enthusiasm in all aspects of school life — each kookaburra embodies a spirit that inspires our students to grow with character. Together, these mascots symbolise the way Cathedral nurtures inquisitive minds, kind hearts, and purposeful futures, reminding us that we don’t just learn our values — we live them.
Respect for self, others, and learning.
•
Responsibility for choices, actions, safety, wellbeing, and the environment.
•
Engagement through actively participating, contributing, and striving for excellence.
•
Service demonstrated by helping others and making a difference.

Rippa the Kind Kookaburra is the gentle-hearted leader of the group—warm, thoughtful, and always ready with a friendly laugh that puts others at ease. He notices the little things: who needs a smile, who hasn’t been included, and when someone needs space. Rippa listens first, speaks kindly, and reminds everyone that differences make the community stronger. He respects the land, the Elders, and the stories that came before him, often chirping about the importance of caring for Country.

Ray the Reliable Kookaburra is the dependable, steady thinker of the flock. Before diving off a branch, he always double-checks the wind and the landing spot. He keeps his nest tidy, looks after shared resources, and reminds his friends to think things through. Ray owns up to mistakes, learns from them, and encourages others to show honesty and courage too. He is practical, organised, and always ready to lend a wing when someone needs support.
Echo the Energetic Kookaburra is curious, lively, and always eager to learn something new. Her laugh rings through the treetops when she discovers a new challenge or solves a tricky problem. She dives into activities with enthusiasm—whether it’s learning a new call, helping with a performance, or participating in bush games. Echo is the first to ask questions, the first to encourage teamwork, and the last to give up when things get tough.

Sunny the Selfless Kookaburra is the heart of the bushland community. She sees needs before others do—whether it’s a young bird who can’t reach a branch, a thirsty plant, or a friend feeling left out. Sunny believes small actions can make a big difference. She is compassionate, inclusive, and always looking for ways to help without expecting anything in return. With a warm laugh and an open wing, Sunny gently encourages others to care for people, place, and planet.
Growing Together 2026–2030 is more than a strategic plan – it is a shared commitment to the future we are shaping as a community. The insights, stories, and aspirations gathered throughout this journey have helped articulate a vision that honours Cathedral’s heritage while embracing the possibilities ahead. As we move into the next chapter, our focus remains clear: nurturing minds, strengthening character, and creating opportunities that empower every student to thrive. In the reflections that follow, our Heads of School share what this plan means for their students, their programs, and Cathedral’s future.
